MLB Picks 8/19/2022

As you know winning on baseball is very tough to do and while I don’t always wager on my picks myself I am in a handicapping contest for MLB August 2022 on Pregame.com so I can keep track of my plays without risking my hard earned money. This month my record is 53-27 and had I been wagering 100 a game I’d be up $1,394 for August. I have tried to get as close to an even money play as I can so if I go 3-2 I may break even or be a bit ahead.

Phillies money line -117. Phillies ace Aaron Nola is on the mound as they face division leading NY Mets. Chris Bassitt starts for the Mets. What you should know: The Mets are 11-4 vs. the Phillies this year. While I am picking Nola and the Phillies here he is 0-3 in 4 starts vs. the Mets this year. However he has given up 3, 3, 1 and 1 earned runs in his starts this year. Bassitt has been lights out vs. Philly this year 2-0 in 3 starts giving up 1, 1 and 0 in those 3 starts. Both teams are 6-4 their last 10. Fade or follow there are the numbers to know.

The Dodgers a huge -255 money line favorite, so my pick is LA Dodgers -1.5 runs -125. Tyler Anderson 13-2 for the season starts as they are back in LA from a game in Milwaukee yesterday. Jesus Lazardo starts for the Marlins he is 3-5. Its the first of 7 games between the two clubs.

St. Louis -1.5 -105. Fresh off a sweep of the Rockies and without a days rest the Cardinals are in Phoenix. Miles Mikolas vs. Tommy Henry is the pitching matchup. The two teams have split four games this year so far played in May. This a three game series.

Padres -1.5 -150. We see the -150 price tag on the Friars here, compared to the -325 money line price. Washington took game 1 with a 2 run 9th inning breaking a 1-1 tie to win 3-1 last night making the season series 2-2 between the two sides. Its Blake Snell for the Padres vs. Paolo Espino for the Nats.

Mariners -130 as they take on the A’s. The M’s are 7-3 vs. the Athletics for the year. Marco Gonzales vs. Cole Irvin. Gonzales is 2-1 in 3 starts vs. Oakland this year giving up 5, 2 and 2 in the 3 starts. Irvin has not seen the Mariners this year, he is 0-3 for the month. Last year he was 0-5 vs. Seattle giving up 4,4,3,3 and 5 in those starts.
